Why Filter Water?
This is Why

why filter babyPublic drinking water in Chicago and every other major city contains lead, a toxic metal, and harmful organic chemicals.

Disinfection of public drinking water has been a boon to public health worldwide. No one doubts the necessity of removing harmful bacteria from the drinking water.

Disinfection typically utilizes a chlorination process to kill harmful bacteria, and this chlorine reacts chemically with organic material naturally present in surface waters like the Great Lakes to create harmful by-products of disinfection called DBP's (disinfection by-products). For example, in 2007, Chicago reported the presence of 14.7 parts per billion (ppb) total trihalomethoanes (TTHMs) including chloroform, and 9.7 ppb haloacetic acids (HAA) in the public water supply.

Luckily, these harmful organics are easily removed with a point-of-use Great Water filter at your faucet.

Lead,
a toxic metal in your water, is most commonly introduced by the water's contact with lead plumbing fixtures and lead pipes still in use in all major cities over thirty years old. This is of special danger because the lead is introduced after the water leaves the testing facilities of your water utility and is largely out of their control. It is up to you to remove any lead picked up between their monitoring facility and your home.

Luckily again, all Great Water filters are rated to remove lead up to the suggested filter change time.

Some public water systems like those in Denver and Philadelphia, for example, use a chlorine compound called chloramine which is produced by the reaction of chlorine and ammonia. Chloramine has its own chemical adsorption profile and requires a different set of filter components than free chlorine treated water.

You can be assured that Great Water has done the research for you and will only recommend the best filter solution for your water supply.
